Facebook New Feature – QR Codes ” Quick Response Codes”

Facebook

Facebook have started enabling users to generate custom two-dimensional QR codes.

It looks like Facebook will implement two type of QR codes:

  • a “personal barcode” ,
  • a “status QR barcode”. This will appear on Facebook Fan Pages.

The QR codes don’t seem to be functional yet, and the links related to it are sporadic. Sometime they show other they don’t. We believe that Facebook is testing this feature now and it would not be long before we start seeing it all

What is QR code?

A QR Code is a matrix code (or two-dimensional bar code) created by Denso-Wave in 1994. The “QR” is abbreviation to “Quick Response”. The developer intended the code to allow its contents to be decoded swiftly by a mobile phone through its camera. QR Codes are used to transfer a piece of information from one type of media and put it in to your cell phone – this will links, videos, text, photos and more.

QR codes have wider range of use than a standard barcode and they are capable to store much more data. The other major advantage of QR Codes is that it can be read’ by most modern mobile phones, you do not need a scanner. QR Codes can be converted by smart phone. Most new smart phone have are applications that support QR code scanning. Finally QR Codes are common in Japan, and most current Japanese mobile phones can read this code with their camera.

Imagine how hip it will be when people will have their Facebook Profile link or fan page link on a bracelet, pendent or even on their T-shirt.
